Jack Black Beard Lube + Dr Brandt Mattifying Lotion

Recently I was sent two products from Mankind to trail. The products being Jack Black Beard Lube and Dr Brandt Anti-Ageing Mattifying Lotion. I hadn't used any products from either brand before, so I was intrigued to find out what they had to offer.

Jack Black - Beard Lube
First up, don't you just love the name! Beard Lube promises to be a pre-shave oil, shave cream and skin conditioner, all in one. It contains Macadamia Nut oil and Jojoba oil to soften the hair and protect the skin during shaving. It also contains peppermint and menthol to cool and soothe the skin.

Texture wise, I'd describe it similar to a hair conditioner. It's certainly a lot looser than shave creams I've used. It also doesn't foam or lather up. Because of this though I did find myself using a little more of the product that maybe I needed to.
It does cool the skin and gives a comfortable shave. It contains silicones, which give the razor a nice 'glide'. However not as cooling or as close a shave as other shave creams I've used. So for that reason, I probably wouldn't repurchase it.

That said I think it would suitable for a younger guy, who maybe doesn't have as much stubble as I do and like the idea of pre-shave, shave & post-shave treatment in one.

Dr Brandt Pores No More - Anti-Ageing Mattifying Lotion
This oil-free mattifying lotion suitable for oily and combination skins. It's not often you see a product that offers 'Anti-Ageing' AND 'Mattifying' at the same time. It states it contains apple stem cells to delay the signs of ageing and retinol to stimulate cell turn over and reduce the appearance of fine lines. It also promises to limit water loss and improve lipid barrier function to balance moisture levels.

It's a little thicker in consistency than I was expecting for a lotion, however it's absorbed really quickly into the skin. Leaving a lovely matte finish. It smells fantastic too, I can't quite pinpoint the smell, but it definitely reminds me of something I've used before.

I've been using the daily after a hyaluronic acid serum and before applying sunscreen (or BB cream).
It's definitely hydrating and mattifying, I've noticed I am a little less oily when I'm using this, so it keeps to that side of it's promise. As for the Anti-Ageing aspect, I'm not 100% convinced yet. However I like it enough to repurchase it and see what longer term use could bring.
