OK. So it's not strictly makeup for men, it doesn't mean men can't benefit from it though. In the same way I don't care for restricting my skincare to 'For Men' ranges, I don't like to restrict myself to 'For Men' cosmetics either.
For three reasons. Firstly, standard ranges (I say standard ranges instead of 'Women's ranges', as I believe all ranges are unisex) are far more advanced than men specific ranges. They've been around longer, therefore have had more time to evolve. Secondly, there's generally more colour choices available, which makes finding the perfect match for your skin tone a lot easier. Sometime I believe is even more important when it comes to mens makeup. Lastly, they don't come with silly macho names like 'Mancealer' or 'Guyliner', that aim to reassure our masculinity and not use the 'M' word. FYI - You're not fooling anyone.
So we've established there isn't really any difference in the products mens can use (if they choose). Men may choose to apply it differently though. Personally I think men's makeup should be about complexion correcting. It should be subtle and natural looking. Less is definitely more. It's not about having great looking makeup, it's about having great looking skin.

I've been testing out three products from the Liz Earle Makeup range, which are a great example of cosmetics suitable for men. The packaging is dark navy blue and silver, there's nothing overly feminine about the range, so they look just as good in a man's cosmetics bag, as they would a woman's. They include the Perfect Fix Concealer, Light Reflecting Concealer and Natural Glow Bronzer.
The Liz Earle Perfect Fix Concealer is available in 7 shades, ranging from extra fair to deep, so you should be able to find your perfect match. The Fair - Medium was a good match for me. It's a creamy, buttery texture, that blends really easily and concealers well. I've been using this to cover old acne scars on my forehead. Also great for covering large pores and redness around my nose. (Retails at £13.50).
I'm quite fortunate to not really suffer from much darkness around my eyes but I've been using the Liz Earle Light Reflecting Concealer just in the inner corners of my eye. I've only ever used one liquid concealer for eyes before, funnily enough one designed for men, in a popular click button pen, but I really didn't like it. It was far too orange (only came in one shade too) and it settled in my creases. The Liz Earle Light Reflecting Concealer is fantastic. Available in 4 shades. Surprisingly the Fair really suited me, I was expecting to be in the Medium shade. Most importantly it brightens the eye area without settling into creases. Even after an entire day of wearing it. (Retails at £15.50).
I'm a big fan of bronzer and it's probably one of the most used cosmetics for men. I love having a tan but I don't want the negative effects from a real one. Plus using glycolic acid treatments, means a self tan doesn't last long on my face. A bronzing powder is the perfect solution for a natural looking tan. The Liz Earle Natural Glow Bronzer is a superfine pressed powder with avocado oil, borage oil and vitamin E. It gives a subtle glow, adding just a hint of warm to the skin. It's great for this time of year but I think I'd prefer something a little darker for the summer months. (Retails at £19.50).
I'm really impressed with the whole range, it performs well but most importantly, subtle and natural looking. Perfect for men.........and women too!
All are available from Liz Earle.

I am glad you like the Liz Earle Colour range. I really love the bronzer and concealer and I use them every day. I actually like the bronzer being so subtle, because it never looks like I applied too much :) oh, and the medium shade of Perfect Fix Concealer looks like a great contour shade. I don't know if you tried contouring, but I think that men can benefit from it as well :) not Kim Kardashian style obviously, but just to accentuate your features In a very subtle way :)
ReplyDeletePs. Your skin looks perfect, I will have to invest in some glycolic acid treatments.
Thanks Sandra. I'm not brave enough to attempt contouring.......it could terribly wrong in my hands lol
DeleteAnd thank you for your kind comments about my skin. In my head I still see all my flaws from acne days....which weren't that long ago really. Glad it's getting better though :) x
I love the iconic LE cleanse & polish, but I haven't tried any of the cosmetics. Bronzer is something I've only really started using the past year or so and that one sounds good as its not always easy to get a light shade bronzer.
ReplyDeleteGreat post Andy!
Ali x
Thanks Ali, this is very light so would suit you well. It's difficult to apply too much with this one :) x
DeleteFantastic post. You wouldn't be able to tell you had any make up on. It looks really natural. I want to try more from Liz Earle. x
ReplyDeleteThanks Alice :) x
DeleteLove Liz Earle and I still use the skincare range on and off. I loved the fact that I'm not the only guy who doesn't like the famous clicking pen concealer. I must try the Liz earle concealer as you said it doesn't crease which is what I find all the time with using liquid concealer under my eyes. Bronzer sounds fab too. Btw - you have amazing skin (I'm very jealous).
ReplyDeleteThank you that's very kind. Yes definitely try the Liz Earle light reflecting conealer, it's great!
