Balmology Triple Action Post-Shave Balm

Those of you who read my blog regularly will know, I very rarely get that excited over Men's skin care or grooming products (usually because most of it is just marketing hype) but when it comes to post-shave or after-shave balms, us men really have no other option but to shop for a men's skin specific product.

If you read my review of the amazing Balmology Cleansing Balm, I mentioned I was trialing a new product that was due for release, specifically for men. At the time it was so new that it didn't even have a name or a label for that matter, it was literally a blind trail! I can however now reveal, as I have the FIRST branded pot in my possession, it's called the Triple Action Post-Shave Balm

Unlike most (if not all) Post-Shave or After-Shave Balm's that are on the market today, the Balmology Triple Action Post-Shave Balm is a TRUE balm, rather than a lotion or cream dressed up in balm-clothing (labeling).

The beauty of being a true balm, is this is a water-free product, meaning there is no need for a preservative. Which as most of you will know, is usually the cause of irritation in skin care products. After you've just caused a load of irritation with a razor, the last thing you want is to apply a product that could potentially cause even more irritation! Of course, being water-free, it also means it's highly concentrated. You only need a rice-grain amount and a single pot lasts about 6 months with daily usage.

The 'Triple Action' part of the name comes from it's ability to;
  1. Soothe
  2. Tone
  3. Hydrate
1. Soothe - thanks to the Argan Oil, Beeswax, Jojoba Oil, Shea Butter, Frankincense and Sandalwood, which all have natural anti-inflammatory properties. Really important for after shaving, as regardless of how 'gentle' your razor it, shaving IS very aggressive on the skin and causes a lot of pro-ageing inflammation, whether visible to the naked eye or not. You've also stripped away some of the stratum corneum, therefore the anti-bacterial properties of the Beeswax, Frankincense and Sandalwood help reduce risk of any bacterial infection.

2. Tone - thanks to the astringent properties of Hazelnut Oil, Frankincense and Green Mandarin, which help to tighten the pores after shaving. Patting the excess balm over the entire face, will also help to regulate sebum production.

3. Hydrate - thanks to the essential fatty acid and nourishing properties of Argan Oil, Beeswax, Jojoba Oil, Avocado Oil and Shea Butter. This helps to put back the moisture which is lost or stripped during the shaving process. Helping to reduce irritation even further and condition the skin without feeling greasy.

The most surprising thing about this product is how well it absorbs. Despite being a balm texture, it sinks in almost instantly, without leaving an greasy film on the skin. It leaves the skin feeling so calm and nourished. For someone, like me, who is prone to shaving irritation, rash and bumps, this is honestly the best product I've ever used to calm and soothe the post-shave fire and hydrate the skin.
I've been using this purely on the areas I've shaved, however for men with a normal to dry complexion, you can use this over your entire face as your post-shave treatment and moisturiser in one.

The Balmology Triple Action Post-Shave Balm retails at £25 for a 50g pot which is an absolute BARGAIN, considering how little you use, how long it will last and of course, the premium ingredients that have gone in to making this wonder 'man-balm'!

Available now from Balmology.

P.S. see below an image of the well used 'unbranded' pot I'd been trailing, which goes to show how much I LOVE this balm. If you couldn't tell from the review ;-)

  1. Nice post!
    Really would love to try the cleansing balm..getting used more and more to "oily" texture for face cleansing (although I prefer creamy/gel cleanser). x
